A charming French 10th-place solid iron prize medal for a horse-riding show dating from the 1938 fair in Bourges, France. Note the medal round shape, solid green patina and molded type. This civil competition included an obstacle course for riders to compete with their show jumper horses. The medal features a loop at the top for ribbon to be strung through and worn by the prize horse or the rider. A highly collectible token from pre-war France.
During the 19th edition of the 1938 Foire-Exposition the President of the Republic, Albert Lebrun, came to Bourges for the inauguration. The Bourges Fairs are events that are generally accompanied by entertainment, and their distant origins lie in religious festivals that brought together often considerable crowds.
