Allium amplectens 'Graceful Beauty'

The North American native Allium ‘Graceful Beauty’ has been adored by gardeners and pollinators since 1857. The plant’s snowball-shaped flower heads are densely crowded with up to 50 starry, 3" white florets that carry flecks of pinkish lavender along their midribs and stamens. Plant this favorite in clusters and in well-draining soil and tuck the bulbs near purple-flowering Salvias and blue-blossoming Nepetas to draw out the subtle and exquisite lavender highlights. ‘Graceful Beauty’ is also a fine choice for containers.

The genus Allium (the Latin means "garlic") offers colorful, distinctive, and long-lasting forms that are standouts in the early summer garden. Alliums are sun-lovers and prefer well-drained, even sandy, soil. Deer, mice, chipmunks, and related predators generally avoid this group, so you can plant with impunity. Tuck them among clumps of summer-flowering perennials where the Alliums' withering foliage will be hidden by the expanding perennials.
