Orange Flowering Living Stone Succulent

Aloinopsis malherbeii belongs to the Aizoaceae family and is native to South Africa. This compact living stone succulent is admired for its distinctive grey-green to blue-green leaves arranged in attractive low-growing rosettes. The thick fleshy leaves have textured surfaces and gently toothed margins, giving the plant a sculptural appearance even when not in bloom.

Over time, the plant forms small clusters that create an attractive miniature succulent display. Its unusual leaf shape and compact growth habit make it a favourite among collectors of mesembs and living stone succulents.

Flower Colour & Blooming

Bright orange to apricot daisy-like flowers with yellow centres appear mainly from September to December under Indian growing conditions. The blooms open during sunny daylight hours and provide a striking contrast against the grey-green foliage.

Growing Conditions

Aloinopsis malherbeii thrives in bright light and benefits from several hours of direct sunlight daily. Use a highly porous, well-drained succulent mix containing coarse sand, grit or perlite to prevent excess moisture around the roots.

This species is primarily a winter-growing succulent and may slow down during the hottest summer months. Allow the growing medium to dry between waterings and reduce watering during dormancy. Avoid prolonged wet conditions, especially during humid weather.

A shallow pot with excellent drainage is ideal. A light feeding with a balanced fertilizer during the active growing season encourages healthy growth and flowering.

Display & Uses

Its compact size makes it ideal for succulent collections, windowsill gardens, dish gardens, ventilated terrariums, rock gardens and xeriscaping displays. The attractive foliage and colourful blooms make it an excellent specimen for decorative containers and collector succulent arrangements.
