Antique European white pot w/ blue-glazed fruit motifs 9¾"

A charming "Keulse" or "Cologne" blue and white glazed stoneware pot which dates from the end of the nineteenth century to early twentieth century. Likely German in origin, a "Cologne pot" is a stone pot that was used for centuries to pickle vegetables, meat and eggs. This piece has two little handles with striped blue glaze and is decorated with blue fruit motifs on each side - a strawberry and a quince.

These types of pots are typically made of ceramic material with a layer of salt glaze. This layer of glaze ensures that the pot is watertight. This piece would be the perfect addition to an existing collection of pottery or as a charming kitchen utensil holder or flower vase.
