This antique French absinthe fountain, dating from around 1900, is a classic example of the Belle Époque ritual surrounding the preparation of absinthe. It is made from a combination of metal and glass, materials commonly used at the time to balance functionality with decorative appeal. The central reservoir is crafted from clear blown glass and was designed to hold iced water. It is capped with a domed metal lid topped by a finial. The reservoir rests on a tall, elegant pedestal that gives the fountain both height and presence, making it a striking centerpiece on any table or bar.

Around the base of the reservoir are four delicately curved spigots, evenly spaced to allow multiple people to use the fountain simultaneously. Each spigot is manually operated and releases a controlled drip of cold water. This slow dripping of water was an essential part of the absinthe ritual, as it was meant to fall over a sugar cube placed on a slotted spoon balanced over a glass of absinthe. As the water mixed with the spirit, it would trigger the signature louche effect, turning the liquid a milky, opalescent color and releasing its complex aromas.
