This superb olive jar and pedestal dates from the late-nineteenth century and is most likely from the coastal town of Biot, famous for olive jars like these. Coming from Chanteduc, the home of Patricia and Walter Wells in Provence, Walter recalls it was full of dirt that they had to buy with the pot!! Nonetheless, they hauled it home to sit by a window under the "call Walter" antique bell. It is attached to the square stone pedestal - the pedestal was custom made from stone by an artisan in Apt.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
