This early 20th-century French storage jar in glazed terracotta presents a sturdy, upright form with softly swelling sides tapering to a flat base. The mouth is wide and framed by a thick, slightly everted rolled rim, with pulled ear handles set high at the shoulder, compact and functional for lifting. The exterior carries a beautiful glossy green glaze of varied tonality, shifting from moss to olive and enlivened by vertical ochre runs. Around the rim, the glaze pools into darker, thick beads adding texture. Inside, a honey-yellow glaze provides a sealed, practical surface.

Part of the French tradition of kitchen storage pots, this vessel was used to keep foodstuffs preserved in fat, oil, or brine before refrigeration.
