Aphidius colemani – Parasitic Wasp for Aphid Control

Aphidius colemani is a tiny parasitic wasp (2–3 mm) widely used for natural control of several common aphid species. Effective for both preventative and curative applications, it parasitizes young aphids to provide consistent, long-term population management. Active all year and unaffected by short day length, A. colemani is well-suited for greenhouses, outdoor crops, nurseries, and controlled environments.

How It Works
Females locate aphid colonies using plant distress signals and feed on honeydew. They inject an egg into young aphids; as the larva develops, it consumes the host from within, turning it into a hardened brown or gray mummy. Adults emerge from the mummies and immediately search for new aphids to parasitize. In addition to parasitism, they also feed on honeydew for energy and survival.

Application Instructions
Preventative Use

• Open the container in the crop area and allow emerged adults to fly out while walking through plants.

• Recap between uses and keep at greenhouse temperatures.

• Repeat daily for 2–4 days until full emergence.

Corrective Use

• Open vial near aphid colonies and leave upright or tied in canopy for 3–4 days.

• Do not empty mummies from vial – they require humidity for successful emergence.

Blister Packs

• Separate individual packs and hang in canopy.

• Distribute evenly for prevention or concentrate in active infestation areas.

Release Rates

• 500–3,000 wasps per acre

• Apply 2–3 times at 1-week intervals

• Increase frequency for hot spots or heavy infestations
