Large aphids such as the potato and foxglove aphid are too big for the small-species wasps to handle well, which is where Aphidius ervi comes in. This parasitic wasp is sized and tuned to attack large-bodied aphids, laying an egg inside each host that turns it into a mummy. Growers often pair it with Aphidius colemani so the two wasps together cover both the large and small aphids in a mixed infestation.
