The Apoballis 'Purple Sword' (also known as Homalomena Purple Sword) features elongated, sword-shaped leaves with a dark olive-green base, heavy silver-grey mottling on the surface, and a rich, burgundy-purple underside. The stems (petioles) are a deep, saturated purple, providing a stunning vertical accent. While gaining popularity, it remains a unique find that stands out from more common tropical houseplants.![]()
Native to the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia (specifically Indonesia), the 'Purple Sword' is an evergreen perennial. It belongs to the Araceae family and is prized for its ornamental foliage rather than its size, staying relatively compact and manageable for indoor spaces.![]()
Like many aroids, it produces a spathe and spadix (similar to a Peace Lily but smaller and less showy). The flowers are often hidden beneath the foliage and are considered secondary to the stunning leaves.
