It welcomes spring with a profusion of white flowers that turn to nearly black fruits, a favorite of birds, including mockingbirds, warblers, and vireos. This American genus includes three species, all of which are grown primarily for their handsome foliage and abundant fall berries. They are very tolerant plants that will grow almost anywhere.
