For centuries, peridot had an identity problem — gem traders kept mistaking it for emerald. Historians now believe Cleopatra's famous "emerald" collection was actually peridot, and for hundreds of years, a set of gems in Germany's Cologne Cathedral was believed to be emerald too — until someone finally looked closer and found peridot instead. It's also one of the only gemstones ever confirmed to fall from space: peridot has been found inside pallasite meteorites, though the kind on Earth (and the kind in this bracelet) formed the ordinary way, deep in the mantle beneath volcanic ground.
That sunny, olive-green color is exactly why ancient Egyptians linked it to positivity and light — worn, quite literally, as a piece of the sun. Later traditions leaned into protection: peridot set in gold was believed to guard the wearer from "terrors of the night," and some cultures strung it on cord and wore it on the left arm specifically to keep bad energy at a distance. Somewhere in the middle of all that folklore, it also just became known as a stone of joy — the kind people gave when they wanted someone's mood to lift, not just their luck.

- Peridot sits in the middle of the durability range — tougher than opal, softer than sapphire, so normal wear is fine but avoid rough impact
