Dated circa 1875, it bears the mark of Haviland Limoges but was most likely created in their Auteuil workshop, a more experimental and artist-led branch of the famed porcelain house. Though unsigned, the decoration is consistent with the hand of Charles Midoux, a known ceramic painter who worked in the Auteuil studio during the 1870s.

Founded by David Haviland in the mid-19th century, Haviland Limoges rose to international renown for its fine porcelain, which graced the tables of European courts and American elites. The Auteuil atelier, established near Paris, was conceived as a creative extension of the main factory, a space where artists could explore freer forms, painterly glazes, and hand-rendered decoration. Charles Midoux, active in the Auteuil studio during this period, brought a refined and lyrical sensibility to his work, blending detailed botanical studies with the looseness of impressionistic surface treatment.
