Begonia 'Cathedral' - Welsh Grown

A striking foliage Begonia, Begonia ‘Cathedral’ produces large, textured leaves decorated with intricate silver-green patterns and deep burgundy undersides. The dramatic markings resemble the ornate stained-glass windows found in grand cathedrals, giving this beautiful cultivar its name. Although grown primarily for its stunning foliage, mature plants may occasionally produce delicate clusters of pale pink flowers.

Origin
Cultivar developed from Begonia rex hybrids, originally native to northeast India.

Light
Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves and fade their beautiful colouring. An east or north-facing window is ideal.

Water
Water when the top 2–3cm of compost feels dry. Keep the soil lightly moist but never waterlogged. Reduce watering during winter and avoid leaving water sitting in the centre of the plant.

Humidity
Enjoys moderate to high humidity. Rather than misting, increase humidity with a pebble tray, humidifier or by grouping plants together.

Soil
Thrives in a light, free-draining compost. A quality houseplant compost mixed with perlite and a small amount of fine orchid bark provides excellent drainage while retaining enough moisture. Repot every 1–2 years during spring.

Food
Feed every 4–6 weeks throughout spring and summer using a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser at half strength. Pause feeding during autumn and winter.

Temp
Prefers temperatures between 18–24°C. Avoid temperatures below 15°C, cold draughts and sudden temperature changes.
