Plant & Care

Plant Brachylaena discolor in full sun with well‑drained soil. Water regularly during establishment, especially in Cape Town’s dry summer months (December-March), but once mature it is highly water‑wise. Prune lightly to shape or control size, though it naturally forms a graceful, upright canopy. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Feed with a balanced fertiliser in spring to encourage healthy growth.  Prune off the lower branches to form a shade tree; and if space is limited, grow it in a large pot.
