Sempervivum ‘Bronze Pastel’ – Hardy Hens & Chicks

Sempervivum ‘Bronze Pastel’ (Moore) is a beautiful and highly regarded British variety introduced by Nicholas Moore in 1953. A descendant of S. marmoreum, this compact Sempervivum is beautifully proportioned and develops an especially striking display of color during late spring and summer.

This gorgeous metallic hybrid, S. marmoreum erythraeum × S. ‘Brunneifolium’, features pointed leaves edged with delicate cilia. Throughout the seasons, the rosettes can display a unique blend of bronze, copper, red, burgundy, gold, and green, making it a standout in any succulent collection.

Sempervivums are perfect for rock gardens, containers, troughs, borders, and clustered plantings. They naturally produce offsets, or “chicks,” on stolons. Leave the chicks attached to create a beautiful cluster or remove and transplant them to expand your collection or share with friends.

☀️ For the best color: Hens & Chicks need plenty of outdoor sunlight to develop their strongest colors and maintain a tight rosette form. They thrive in gritty, well-draining soil and containers with drainage holes.

Sempervivums do most of their growing during spring and summer and appreciate regular watering during active growth. Allow the soil to dry between waterings. They are incredibly frost hardy and can happily overwinter beneath an insulating blanket of snow. Protect from heavy rains and standing water to help prevent rot.
