The Burgundy Rubber Plant is a Ficus elastica selection grown for foliage color: new leaves unfurl a deep crimson red from a bold red sheath, then darken as they mature into a green so deep it reads almost black. The stiff, glossy leaves reach up to 17 inches long on an erect, sturdy stem that is easy to keep as a tidy floor plant or prune into a bushier shape.
It is more tolerant of medium indoor light than the variegated Ficus elastica selections, which makes it a forgiving choice for a living room corner or office that only gets a few hours of bright light a day.
