Coreopsis lanceolata, tray of 50 plugs

Lanceleaf Tickseed (Coreopsis lanceolata) seems like the sunny essence of summer, especially when accentuated by a cloud of pollinators. This native straight species combines beautifully with grasses in a meadow or prairie planting, reflecting its native habitat. Individual plants can be short-lived, but they naturalize by self-sowing, sometimes abundantly. Deadhead to extend the bloom season and control seeding if desired, but leave some ripening seed heads for birds in fall. Plants will sprawl in overly rich soil but thrive along roadsides and in unimproved sandy, rocky well-drained soils. This flat contains 50 plant plugs, each 2" wide x 5" deep.

The genus Coreopsis is composed of Daisy-like plants that are excellent for the border. Most are native to the southeastern United States and Mexico. They are not the least fussy about soil but require full sun. Remove spent flowers to ensure continuing bloom.
