A stripped wood log stands between your armchair and the brick wall, its surface studded with natural knots like dark eyes staring out at the room. Near the top, a round wooden crossbar passes through the log from back to front, extending outward over the armchair. A wide mushroom cap hangs from the end of the crossbar, angled slightly downward, its hand-carved gill lines casting a focused pool of warm golden light onto the open book in your lap.
Sculpted Log Stem with Natural Knots
The stem is a section of solid wood log, stripped of bark and finished in a warm golden honey tone. The surface is smooth to the touch but retains the organic contour of the original tree, with natural curves, subtle ridges, and prominent knot holes scattered along its height. The knots are dark, round, and sealed flush with the surface. They break up the vertical grain pattern with swirling focal points that draw the eye as you walk past. The log is kiln-dried and structurally stable, selected for its diameter, straightness, and the character of its knot placement.
Crossbar Arm
A round wooden dowel passes horizontally through the log near the top, secured with a traditional mortise joint. The crossbar extends outward on one side, reaching over the seating area to position the cap directly above a reader. The other end of the crossbar is visible on the back side of the log, creating a balanced, intentional design element. The crossbar is finished in the same warm tone as the log, with a slightly smoother texture. The mortise joint is tight and invisible from a distance, but up close you can see the precision of the hand-cut hole where the crossbar meets the log.
Gill Glow Cap
The cap is a shallow bell shape, wider at the rim and rising to a gentle peak at the center. The polished outer surface shows flowing grain in warm amber tones. Underneath, dense, tightly spaced gill lines are carved by hand from the center outward to the rim. The gill spacing on this cap is among the finest in the collection, with more lines per inch than the wider parasol caps. The built-in LED shines through the carved channels, projecting warm 2700K light in a focused, tight sunburst downward onto the reading area. The shallow bell shape directs most of the light straight down rather than spreading it sideways, making this one of the most effective reading lamps in the mushroom collection. Dimmable from full task lighting to a soft ambient background glow.
Walnut Disc Base
The base is a thick, turned disc of dark walnut that contrasts with the lighter golden log above. The walnut grain shows flowing chocolate-brown lines. The dark base grounds the lamp visually and provides stable weight for the tall log and extended crossbar. A felt pad protects the floor.
