Delphinium Chantay offers turrets of rich lavender-pink blooms with white “bee” centers above a mound of deep green foliage. The compact, well-branched plants are floriferous, providing color for the landscape and drama for bouquets from early summer to fall. This member of the Delgenius® series represents a decade of work by a Dutch breeder to produce Delphiniums with superior hardiness and heat tolerance, a multi-branching habit, strong flower stems with abundant semi-double blossoms, and a tendency to rebloom. The tall hybrid Delphiniums are the outstanding elements of every well-bred garden. However, dwarf forms and the sturdy and graceful species are equally charming in their own way. Delphiniums require full sun and rich soil amended with lime. In the South, they are best planted in the fall and treated as cool-season annuals.
