Dendrobium nobile - Noble Orchid

A striking orchid with elegant, arching canes adorned with clusters of fragrant, long-lasting flowers. Dendrobium nobile produces vibrant blooms in shades of white, pink, purple, or yellow, often with a contrasting lip, making it a showstopper in any home. This epiphytic orchid naturally grows on trees in the wild and thrives with bright light and seasonal care adjustments.

Origin
Native to the Himalayan regions of India, Nepal, Bhutan, and Southeast Asia, where it grows as an epiphyte on trees in cool to warm climates.

Light
Prefers bright, indirect light. A few hours of morning or late afternoon sun are beneficial, but avoid harsh midday sun, which can scorch the leaves.

Water
During active growth (spring and summer), water regularly, keeping the medium slightly moist but not soggy. In autumn and winter, reduce watering significantly to encourage flowering—allow the medium to dry out almost completely between waterings.

Humidity
Prefers moderate to high humidity (50–70%). Use a humidity tray, mist occasionally, or place near other plants to create a humid microclimate, especially in winter when indoor air is drier.

Soil
Use a well-draining orchid mix, typically composed of bark, perlite, and charcoal. Avoid regular potting soil, which retains too much moisture and can lead to root rot.

Food
Feed every two weeks during the growing season with a balanced orchid fertiliser. Reduce feeding in autumn and stop entirely in winter when the plant enters dormancy. Resume feeding in spring when new growth appears.

Temperature
Prefers temperatures between 15–25°C. In winter, a slight temperature drop (10–15°C at night) helps trigger flowering. Avoid exposure to temperatures below 5°C.
