Diatomaceous Earth is a naturally occurring product made from millions of fossilised algae mined from seas and lakes. Each grain is exceptionally hard and razor-sharp. When insects contact it, the sharp edges lacerate their exoskeleton while the powder absorbs body fluids, causing death from dehydration. This abrasive and absorbent action makes it highly effective against slugs and a wide range of garden pests.

Unlike chemical pesticides, Diatomaceous Earth works through purely physical means with no chemical toxicity. Pests cannot build resistance, and there is no soil accumulation. When applied to vegetables, no withholding period is required—simply wash off the dust with water before eating.

Targets

• Ants, caterpillars, cutworms, fleas, ticks, cockroaches, snails, slugs, spiders, termites, silverfish, lice, mites, flies, centipedes, earwigs, aphids, beetles, fruit flies, lemon tree borers, thrips, psyllids and more

Application Methods

• Sprinkle on window sills, manure, and compost to control flies and odours
• Apply around vegetables, seedlings, and garden beds to protect from chewing and sucking pests
• Dust around house foundations, wood stacks, and garden structures to deter cockroaches and spiders
• For indoor use, vacuum infested areas first, then dust lightly and repeat every few weeks as needed
• Mix 2 cups with 500 ml water to create a paint for fruit tree trunks—protects against ground-dwelling insects like codling moths
• Apply when dry; reapply after rain for best results

Important Cautions

• Apply only to areas with visible pest activity—beneficial insects like ladybirds, honeybees, hover-flies, and lacewings will also be affected on contact
• Avoid inhaling dust as it may irritate mucous membranes
