Emalyn's Purple Fig

A fun fact about Emalyn’s Purple (EP) fig is that it was so tasty that the discoverer of this wild fig named it after his wife! Growers of this variety have suggested that the key to getting the optimal flavor from this fig is to ensure it ripens on the tree for as long as possible. Ripe EPs will have a marked Concord grape (or as some have said, “grape kool aid”) flavor. It is mild and mellow with tartness that some will love. EP’s thin skin is good for eating. It has little seed crunch and is known to have pooled nectar in the center.

When do we ship cuttings?

We begin shipping cuttings once the trees are dormant and in storage. Exact timing is weather dependent, but we usually start in early December. We continue to ship throughout the winter and early spring until the trees begin to break dormancy, normally around mid-March. Your cuttings will be cut to order to ensure freshness and provide the greatest chance of rooting success. Cuttings will be a minimum length of 8”, with at least 3 nodes, and will be thicker than a #2 pencil (many are sharpie thickness or greater). Our mother trees are stored in a climate-controlled environment to keep the trees dormant and healthy through the winter and early spring, and the cuttings are guaranteed to arrive in perfect, ready to root, condition.
