Beneath the smooth skin, light amber-orange flesh becomes progressively richer as fruit hangs on the tree, offering a long window for tasting it from pleasantly sweet to intensely candy-like. The fruit is exceptional fresh and adds unusual color and fragrance to salads, desserts, preserves, and cheese plates. One of the early pluots introduced by renowned hybridizer Floyd Zaiger, Flavor Queen helped demonstrate that these plum-apricot hybrids could deliver flavors and textures unlike ordinary stone fruit.
