French Floral Still Life with Chrysanthemums, Signed Marc Antoine, c. 1920 - 28¾" x 33"

A vibrant French oil on canvas still life, painted around 1920 and signed Marc Antoine at the lower right, depicting a generous bouquet of chrysanthemums arranged in a dark blue ceramic vase with an iridescent glaze. Thick, expressive brushwork brings the abundant blooms to life in rich shades of saffron, marigold, russet, ivory, and deep plum, while the softly shadowed background enhances their sculptural forms and lends the scene a subtle air of mystery. Presented in its original foliate-molded frame, the painting is in good condition, with slight relaxation to the canvas at the four corners and light surface wear consistent with age. The frame has developed a beautifully timeworn patina, with gentle rubbing and a few scattered nicks. 

Painted in the lively, expressive manner that became popular in France during the early 20th century, this work celebrates the exuberant texture and colour of chrysanthemums, flowers traditionally associated with longevity, remembrance, and the fleeting nature of beauty.
