Brimming with character, this anthropomorphic spaghetti jar by Julie Desert Armanville transforms a humble kitchen vessel into a charming sculptural figure. Rendered as a smiling cook in apron and headscarf, the figure cradles a shallow bowl heaped with pasta, while Spaghetti is hand-lettered across the neckline of her dress. The torso lifts away at the waist to reveal the storage compartment within. 

Glazed in warm buff, umber, and oxblood tones with a chalky white apron, the figure displays the textured surfaces and expressive individuality characteristic of Desert Armanville's work. The maker's stamp is impressed beneath the base. Glaze variations and minor firing irregularities are integral to the artist's approach, revealing the hand of the maker and contributing to the vitality of the piece. The slightly uneven lid and subtle offsets at the join are inherent to its hand-built construction and further enhance the figure's lively, expressive presence.

Having worked in the Vallauris atelier of renowned designer and ceramicist Roger Capron from 1972 to 1982, contemporary ceramicist Julie Desert Armanville developed a distinctive artistic language characterized by tactile surfaces, expressive forms, and a gentle sense of humor.
