Description

A short stem, or a stemless species, this plant has sword- shaped leaves with a broad base and a sharp pine at the top. Soft & not serrated, the luminous green leaves are adorned with a broad, decorative creamy-yellow strip along their center . This plant produces strongly scented white-cream and green flowers that is attractive to bees. Flowers are followed by small Cactus that cover the inflorescence as the basal plant dies as this plant is monocarpic . While it doesn't offset or form pups, it produces abundant plantlets along the bloom spike that can be replanted for continuing presence of the beautiful plant.

Environment

Furcraea grows best in filtered light and gritty soil that percolates easily. They can even do quite well when potted but use an un-glazed clay pot that will allow evaporation of excess moisture.

Water needs are moderate to light depending upon the heat of the season but the Cactus should be allowed to dry out before irrigation

In growing season they benefit from the application of a granulated time release fertilizer that will provide nutrient to the plant.

Landscape Uses

Strong accent, focal point for desert gardens; oasis and xeric landscape design themes. Great for use around desert and oasis ramadas and patios. Often effectively used in mass or groups spaced at 5 to 6 feet on center.
