Gaia Green Living Soil is a pre-charged organic potting mix, not a bare base you have to build yourself. Seventeen mineral and meal amendments plus worm castings and insect frass come blended into a peat, coir, perlite, and fir bark base, so the soil food web is alive and feeding from day one. How living soil actually feeds a plant
The amendments in this bag are not water-soluble salts. They are meals and ground minerals like blood meal, bone meal, kelp, rock dust, and greensand, and a plant cannot drink them directly. What makes it work is the biology. The worm castings and insect frass seed the soil with bacteria and fungi that digest those amendments and release nutrients in plant-available form. The plant signals the biology through its roots, and the microbes deliver nutrition on demand instead of you pushing a fixed dose in at every watering.
That is also why pot size matters more here than with bottled feed. A bigger pot holds more soil, which means more biology and a larger reserve of amendments, so it feeds the plant longer before it needs a top-dress. More soil means more food and more workers. Match the pot to the plant and the system mostly runs itself.
Pre-charged and ready to plant 1-0-0, plus Mg and Fe
Blood meal, bone meal, feather meal, fishbone meal, alfalfa, kelp, glacial and basalt rock dust, greensand, and oyster shell flour come pre-blended into the base. Registered guaranteed analysis is 1 percent nitrogen with 0.5 percent magnesium and 0.3 percent iron.

African nightcrawler worm castings and insect frass seed the soil food web. Those microbes are what convert the dry amendments into food the plant can actually use.
Water only for the first stretch
In a properly sized pot the pre-charge carries most plants through establishment before they ask for a top-dress. No bottles to mix and no pH pen for that early window.

After the first bag you re-amend and run the same soil again instead of buying fresh media every grow. The more cycles you keep it alive, the cheaper each grow gets.
Self-buffering pH
Dolomite and oyster shell flour lime the mix, so a healthy organic soil holds its pH in range. You skip the pH pen and the runoff testing that salt-based feeding demands.
High-porosity base that drains and breathes
Peat, coir, perlite, and fir bark hold moisture while keeping air at the roots. It hand-waters well and runs beautifully under constant-moisture systems like Blumat and AutoPot.

Planting into Living Soil, from fill to reuse
Fill a pot sized to the plant
Use a 5 to 7 gallon final pot for a full cycle so there is enough soil volume, and enough biology, to feed the plant from the reserve in the bag.
Start seeds in a pocket, not the raw soil
The charged soil is rich for tender seedlings. Dig a small hole, drop in a handful of seed-starting mix, and sow into that pocket, or transplant an already-started seedling.
Water only while it establishes
Skip the liquid nutrients and the pH pen at the start. Plain water lets the biology wake up and feed the plant from the pre-charge.
Top-dress as demand ramps, then reuse
Scratch in 4-4-4 during veg, shift toward Power Bloom 2-8-4 for flower, and water it in. After harvest you can re-amend and run the same soil again.
