  •   Haworthia Zebra - Haworthia fasciata Plant is a compact succulent from the Asphodelaceae family, native to the rocky, semi-arid terrain of South Africa's Eastern Cape. It grows naturally in sheltered pockets beneath shrubs where well-draining soil and dappled light prevail. It remains surprisingly forgiving for beginners thanks to its modest care needs.

Dark green leaves marked with raised white tubercles form the Haworthia Zebra's defining look, banding horizontally across the outer surface in bold zebra stripes. The leaves grow in a tight rosette and gradually clump outward as offsets form around the base. It stays compact, typically reaching 3 to 5 inches tall, making it an ideal desk plant or windowsill accent for tight spaces.

In late spring through summer, slender flower stalks emerge bearing small, tubular pinkish-white blooms. Flowers appear once yearly when conditions favor them, with cool nighttime temperatures helping trigger the blooming cycle. It releases oxygen at night.

Haworthia Zebra performs equally well in terrariums, on office desks, or in small potted collections. It grows under office LED lighting and can be moved outdoors to a bright, sheltered spot during summer, though it needs protection from direct rain and harsh south-facing sun. You can leave it up to ten days without water. A deeper, heavier pot suits its root structure and keeps it stable.

  •   Haworthia Zebra - Haworthia fasciata Plant grows well in low to bright indirect light and benefits from regular rotation for balanced rosette growth.

Water it every 2 to 3 weeks in summer, reducing to once monthly in winter, allowing soil to dry fully between waterings.

Haworthia Zebra does best in a gritty, fast-draining cactus soil blend mixed with extra perlite or coarse sand.

It prefers temperatures between 65 and 80°F and must be protected from cold below 40°F.

Haworthia Zebra is a slow grower requiring only light, diluted succulent fertilizer once in spring and once in summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9 through 11 and is not frost tolerant, needing year-round protection from freezing. It grows outdoors in California, Texas, Arizona, Florida, Hawaii, Nevada, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, and Mississippi. Coastal Oregon, parts of New Mexico, and northern areas of North Carolina within zones 9 through 11 also support outdoor growth.

Q: Can this plant survive without water for extended periods?

Q: How do I propagate Haworthia Zebra?

Q: Can it move outside during summer?
A: Haworthia Zebra enjoys outdoor placement in a bright, sheltered spot during warm months, though it needs shelter from rain and avoidance of direct south-facing exposure.
