Fit two living soil beds in a 2x4 tent with room to spare
The Grassroots Hobby bed measures 19" x 19" x 18" and holds about 28 gallons of soil (3.7 cubic feet). Two of these fit side by side in a standard 2x4 grow tent with enough clearance for drain trays and airflow on all sides. This is the only Grassroots bed size that ships as a complete package with all PVC components included, so there's nothing else to source.

Complete Package PVC Included
Unlike the larger Grassroots beds that ship fabric and fittings only, the Hobby bed includes all PVC pipes pre-cut and ready to assemble. Nothing extra to buy or cut.
Sized for 2x4 Tents
At 19" x 19", two beds fit side by side in a standard 2x4 tent (typically 24" x 48" interior). Each bed supports one plant with 28 gallons of soil, enough for a full no-till cycle.
MoistureLock Liner
The same BPA-free waterproof liner used in the larger beds. Water moves downward, not out the sides, keeping soil biology active throughout the root zone.
4" Bottom Aeration Strip
Breathable fabric at the base handles drainage and air pruning while the liner above retains moisture. You get the benefits of both approaches in one container.
End Caps for Bug Prevention
When you're not running a trellis, the included PVC end caps seal the frame openings to prevent bugs, pests, and soil from entering the pipes.
Reusable Across Cycles
UV-resistant, machine washable fabric with marine-bonded construction. Growers report 3+ years of continuous use. Folds flat for storage when not in use.
How to set up the Hobby bed
Assemble the PVC frame
All PVC pipes and fittings are included. Push the pipes into the 3-way corner fittings to form the rectangular base. No cutting, no glue, no tools.
Slide the fabric over the frame
Drop the fabric bed over the assembled PVC. Position the bed on your drain tray inside the tent before adding soil.
Fill with living soil
Add your soil mix, leaving 3 to 5 inches of headroom for mulch. For transplants, dig a hole and fill the pocket with seed-starting mix rather than planting directly into the bed soil.
Cap or trellis
If you're not running a trellis, press the included end caps onto the vertical PVC to seal the openings. For trellis, extend PVC upward from the corners and add netting.
