Cinnamon Hoya

Hoya lacunosa is an epiphytic perennial flowering plant from the Philippines belonging to the Apocynaceae family. It gets its name from its distinctive lacunose leaves, which appear slightly cupped or sunken between the veins.

This attractive trailing Hoya produces dense cascades of small oval dark green leaves measuring approximately 3–6 cm long. Mature plants develop clusters of fuzzy white star-shaped flowers with yellow crowns that bloom repeatedly from the same peduncle.

One of the most desirable features of Hoya lacunosa is its strong cinnamon-like fragrance, which becomes most noticeable during the evening and night hours, making it one of the most fragrant Hoya varieties.

Flower Colour & Blooming

Flowers are creamy white with yellow centres and are produced in attractive clusters. Under favourable growing conditions, mature plants can flower multiple times throughout the year.

Growing Conditions

Hoya lacunosa is an easy-to-grow houseplant that thrives in bright indirect light or under strong artificial lighting. It prefers warm temperatures, moderate humidity and good air circulation.

As an epiphyte, it grows best in a free-draining growing medium containing bark, coco chips, perlite or orchid mix. Plants kept slightly root-bound generally flower more prolifically than those grown in oversized pots.

Allow the growing medium to partially dry between watering and avoid prolonged waterlogging.

Landscape & Indoor Use

Its naturally cascading habit makes it ideal for hanging baskets, wall planters, shelves and mounted displays. The fragrant blooms make it an excellent choice for balconies, living rooms, bedrooms, study areas and other bright indoor spaces where its evening fragrance can be enjoyed.

The flowers may also attract bees, butterflies and other pollinators when grown outdoors.
