Hoya panchoi IML0228

Small in size but full of character, Hoya panchoi IML0228 is a charming collector’s species prized for its compact growth and beautifully textured foliage. Its neat, rounded leaves emerge bright lime green before developing rich dark green to purple margins, and in bright light they can take on attractive reddish tones. This naturally compact Hoya is perfect for smaller spaces, windowsills or hanging planters, where its gently trailing stems can be appreciated. Mature plants are generous bloomers, producing clusters of tiny, deep red flowers with glowing orange centres that release a delicate sweet fragrance.

Origin
Hoya panchoi is native to the Philippines, where it grows as an epiphyte on trees in warm, humid forests. IML0228 refers to a numbered collector’s selection used within the horticultural trade.  

Light
Thrives in bright, indirect light and will happily tolerate a little gentle morning or evening sun. Brighter conditions can encourage the foliage to develop attractive reddish tones, but avoid prolonged harsh midday sun.  

Water
Allow the top third of the potting mix to dry before watering thoroughly. Like most Hoyas, it prefers to dry slightly between waterings and should never be left sitting in water.

Humidity
Prefers moderate to high humidity but adapts well to average household conditions. Good airflow and occasional increased humidity will encourage healthy growth and flowering.

Soil
Grow in a chunky, free-draining houseplant mix containing bark, perlite and peat-free compost or coco coir. Excellent drainage is essential to keep the roots healthy.

Food
Feed every three to four weeks during spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser. Reduce feeding during autumn and winter when growth naturally slows.

Temperature
Prefers temperatures between 18–28°C and should be protected from temperatures below 15°C.

Pet-safe
Hoyas are generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs. However, chewing any houseplant may cause mild stomach upset in some pets.
