Hylotelephium 'Class Act'

A certifiable star of the late-season garden, Hylotelephium 'Class Act' also provides plenty of interest before it blooms. Green to reddish stems emerge early lined with fleshy, glaucous green foliage faintly outlined in red. Large flower heads densely crowded with green-gray to creamy-white flower buds seem to wait in the wings until mid- to late-summer when they open in gorgeous berry-pink for the season’s finale. As autumn deepens, the color of the flower heads changes to coppery brown. This drought-tolerant, deer-resistant plant is slender, upright, and carefree, once established. The genus Hylotelephium, previously classified as Sedum, consists of over 30 species of herbaceous perennials known for their succulent foliage and clusters of star-shaped flowers. These plants are native to regions in Asia, Europe, and North America, and they are commonly referred to as Stonecrop due to their frequent appearance on rocky terrains. Hylotelephium species are popular in gardens for their drought tolerance, low maintenance, and ability to attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies. They are typically used in rock gardens, borders, and as ground cover, thriving in well-drained soils and full sun​.
