Kalanchoe rhombopilosa, commonly known as Pies from Heaven, is a rare succulent native to Madagascar, admired for its distinctive foliage. Its fan-shaped leaves range from silvery-grey to olive-green, adorned with striking dark brown or copper mottling. The edges are delicately scalloped, evoking the look of pie crusts, while a fine layer of hairs and powdery coating enhances their silvery sheen. Upright to sprawling woody stems support the plant, which can grow up to 30 cm (12 inches) tall, making it a compact yet eye-catching addition to any collection.

Environment

Kalanchoe rhombopilosa thrives with bright, indirect light, sparse watering, and gritty, well-draining soil. Allow the soil to dry completely between waterings, as overwatering quickly leads to root rot. Keep it in warm, dry conditions above 10°C, avoiding frost and excess humidity. A diluted succulent fertilizer once a month during spring and summer supports growth, while minimal feeding is needed in winter. Handle gently since the leaves are fragile, and place it where it gets enough light to maintain its striking silver-grey patterns without scorching.
