Laceleaf Japanese Maple

Laceleaf Japanese Maple (Acer palmatum var. dissectum) is a slow-growing, weeping, multi-stemmed ornamental with finely cut, lacy foliage that turns brilliant shades of red, orange or burgundy in fall and typically forms a compact specimen 6–12 ft tall and wide depending on the cultivar, making it ideal for containers, specimen plantings or as an understory tree in small gardens. In the Willamette Valley it performs best in fertile, well-drained, slightly acidic soil with consistent moisture, planted where it receives morning sun or dappled shade and is protected from hot afternoon sun and strong winds; mulch, regular summer water and minimal pruning will keep it healthy—hardy to USDA zones 5–8.
