Large Provençal Confit Pot w/ Beautiful Bi-Color Glaze - 13"

This sizeable terracotta confit pot dates to the late 19th century and hails from the South of France. With a classic rounded ovoid form, it features a wide mouth, twin loop handles, and a beautiful green glaze cascading down the upper body with accents of warm ochre and amber. The lower section is left unglazed, as was traditional, revealing the natural clay. The interior is coated with a pale slip, while the rim shows expected wear and minor glaze losses from long use.  Confit pots were everyday kitchen vessels in Provence, originally used to preserve duck or goose meat in fat before the age of refrigeration.
