This petite circular gouache miniature still life, dating to the late 19th century, captures both charm and refinement. Signed Lemaire at the lower left, it depicts a turquoise vase filled with blossoms in warm tones of crimson, saffron, and pale yellow, placed beside a small cup on a muted tabletop and set against a soft green ground. Executed in gouache on paper with delicate, feathery brushwork, the work is housed in a round frame with low-relief foliate ornament highlighted by touches of gilt, red and green. The image remains clean and fresh, with only light rubbing and a few small scuffs to the frame consistent with age. Intimate floral miniatures of this type flourished in the late 19th century, when cabinet pictures and round formats enhanced refined interiors.

This piece is signed by Madeleine Lemaire (1845–1928), a celebrated French flower painter whose bouquets were admired in her time and remain sought after today. She exhibited regularly at the Salon, winning several prizes, and illustrated works such as Les Plaisirs et les Jours by Marcel Proust. Known for hosting artistic salons with figures like Guy de Maupassant and Anatole France, she also taught watercolor painting. Named a Chevalier of the Legion of Honor in 1906, Lemaire achieved lasting fame, and her work continues to resonate with collectors.
