Late 19th Century Savoie Jam Pot w/ Grape & Vine Decoration 5"

This late 19th-century jam pot was produced in the Savoie (Savoy) region of southeastern France. Known for its alpine climate and agricultural output, Savoie also maintained a strong tradition of utilitarian pottery throughout the 18th and 19th centuries. Local workshops produced robust domestic wares glazed in earthy tones, often decorated with raised motifs inspired by regional produce and natural forms.

This example features a cylindrical form with applied relief decoration of grape clusters and vine leaves, glazed in soft shades of blue, purple, and green against an olive ground. The interior and rim are coated in a glossy pale yellow glaze. The combination of raised decoration and contrasting glazes is typical of Savoyard ceramic work of this period. Intended for the storage of preserves or fruit confits, the pot shows surface wear and minor glaze losses around the base, consistent with practical use. A fine representation of rural Alpine craftsmanship, both decorative and historically rooted.
