Mehdi's Famous Fig

Mehdi’s Famous Fig originally comes from Iran. The light figs are covered in yellow and green skin that is chewy and pleasant to eat. Mehdi’s Famous Figs have a round shape and the skin has beautiful speckles, striation, and crackling. The pulp of these figs can range in color from brownish red to almost purple. The purple tinges to the pulp are very unique and hint at the subtle berry flavor. Tasters also note honey, caramel, and melon flavors. Mehdi’s Famous is definitely a complex fig, and possibly the most interesting is the grassy flavor mentioned by the fig’s original producer, Bobby (Figologist). Fresh and floral flavors make Mehdi’s Famous a really unique fig.

Mehdi’s Famous produces both a breba and a main crop and it is a common variety, not requiring wasp pollination. Mehdi’s Famous trees grow mostly 3- and 5-lobed leaves and the figs are late ripening.

When do we ship cuttings?

Non-Rooted Cuttings(November/December):

We begin to ship cuttings once the trees are dormant and in a shippable state. Exact timing is weather dependent, but we usually start in November. Shipping continues throughout the winter and early spring. We stop shipping when the trees begin to break dormancy, normally around mid-March.

**All non-rooted cuttings ship between November and March regardless of the date selected during checkout. Orders placed during our pre-sale period(October/November) will ship out first in November/December. If you are rooting your cuttings in the spring, our cuttings can be kept in the refrigerator until you are ready to root them. They will be perfectly fine. That is what we do and they've turned into our most impressive trees.

Rooted Cuttings(Spring):

We begin shipping rooted cuttings once they are mature enough to ship. The shipping period typically begins late April and continues into June. Regardless of the date you select during checkout, we will ship when ready during that span. Please do not ask for ETA's or specific arrival dates. You will receive an email when your order ships with UPS Ground tracking details.
