Cardinals have long been a symbol of loved ones who have passed. The brilliant red birds bear feathers with the colors of love and rejoicing. These Messengers are considered a happy sign of a departed loved one who is gone, but still near. In Willow Tree’s Messenger figurine, the red cardinal sits on a woman’s shoulder, close enough to sing into her ear. The woman is dressed in a simply white frock that accentuates that sculptural carving of the resin. Like all of Willow Tree’s figurine, the woman’s features are less-defined so the viewer can imagine themselves in connection with the cardinal.
