Monarda didyma 'Jacob Cline'

This drop-dead red Monarda didyma 'Jacob Cline' was found growing wild near the Blue Ridge Parkway by a Georgia plantsman who knew he had a good thing when his discovery proved all but impervious to powdery mildew. Large, showy flower heads and disease-resistant foliage ensure that 'Jacob Cline' sets the standard for red Monardas.

Monarda is a North American genus that has several species, all of which share tartly fragrant foliage and square stems that typify members of the Mint family. The flower heads are hemispheres of tubular blooms in brilliant colors that present a feast of nectar for pollinators including bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds in mid- to late-summer. Plants thrive in full sun or partial shade and evenly moist soil. Under these conditions, they will gladly fill any available space but are easily pulled where unwanted and transplant readily.
