One predator that handles spider, broad, and russet mites and survives between meals

Most mite predators starve once the pests are gone, which leaves you buying again the moment a new outbreak starts. Neoseiulus californicus is different: it eats spider mites, broad mites, and russet mites, and it can hold on by feeding on pollen and other small prey when pest numbers drop. That resilience makes it the right first pick for both prevention and active outbreaks, unless you already know you are fighting a heavy two-spotted spider mite bloom.

Miticides vs. a durable predatory mite
Chemical miticides
  • Each product usually targets one mite type
  • Mites famously develop resistance fast
  • Predator dies out and you rebuy after every clear-up
  • Miticides can damage tender tips and roots
  • Residue and re-entry intervals to manage
  • Purely reactive once you spot webbing
Neoseiulus californicus
  • One predator handles spider, broad, and russet mites
  • Pests never adapt to being eaten
  • Persists on pollen and small prey when pests are scarce
  • Completely safe for plants at any stage
  • No residue, no re-entry wait, safe around people
  • Works preventatively and as a curative rescue
Why californicus is the smart default for mites

Three mite pests, one product Spider, broad, russet

Californicus feeds on two-spotted spider mites, broad mites, and russet mites, so you do not have to identify the exact species before you treat.

Survives lean times

When pest numbers fall it feeds on pollen and other small prey, so a standing population stays on your plants ready for the next flare-up.

Prevention and cure in one

Release it early to keep mites from establishing, or drop it onto an active outbreak to bring numbers down without chemicals.

Tolerates warm, dry conditions

It holds up better than many predators in the warmer, lower-humidity rooms where spider mites usually thrive.

Shake-and-go application

Supplied in a bran carrier, it dusts straight onto leaves and stems with no mixing and no sprayer.

Reproduces on the plant

Females lay eggs among the foliage, so the colony renews itself rather than depending on the single batch you released.

Application instructions
1

Turn and gently shake the bottle to distribute the mites in the carrier.

2

Sprinkle onto leaves and stems, focusing on the upper canopy and any stippled spots.

3

Start at the first sign of mites; typical rate 2-50 per m², repeat after 4-6 weeks if needed.

4

Handles warmer, drier rooms better than persimilis.

How californicus takes down a mite problem

1

Dust it onto the plants

Shake the bran carrier evenly over leaves and stems, focusing on the upper canopy and any spots showing stippling.

2

Predators fan out

The mites disperse across the foliage and begin feeding on pest eggs, larvae, and adults.

3

They knock the pests back

As californicus eats through the colony, webbing and new stippling stop appearing.

4

A patrol stays behind

Because it can live on pollen, a resident population remains to catch the next outbreak early.

Californicus or persimilis? Californicus is the versatile default. If you have confirmed a heavy two-spotted spider mite bloom, persimilis knocks it down faster. Not sure which you have? Call us. Call or email us: 716-217-0353 / help@
Frequently asked questions
Yes, that is exactly why californicus is the recommended starting point. It handles spider, broad, and russet mites, so you do not need a positive ID to get control. If you later confirm a heavy two-spotted outbreak, we can add persimilis for a faster finish.
They can. Californicus feeds on pollen and other small prey during lean stretches, so a resident population often persists on the plants and catches new outbreaks early. That is a real advantage over predators that vanish the moment prey runs out.
Chemical residues can harm the predators, so timing matters. If you have sprayed recently, call us before you release and we will help you figure out a safe waiting period based on what you used.
Live insects ship overnight on Tuesdays only, so they arrive Wednesday while still fresh. Place your order at least 7 days ahead so we can include you in the next weekly dispatch. We cannot ship live insects to HI, PR, VI, GU, AS, or PW. Open the package and release the same day it arrives.
