A carved wood mushroom stands between the crib and the reading chair, casting a warm golden glow across the nursery. The wide cap glows from within, light passing through the thin wood grain at the edges and fanning through hand-carved gill lines underneath. The sculpted log stem rises from a natural live edge slab on the floor, its surface still showing the knots, cracks, and grain of the tree it came from. Translucent Gill Glow Cap
The cap is turned from a single piece of solid wood, with the outer edges thinned to 3-5mm so that warm LED light passes through the wood grain itself. The grain becomes visible as glowing amber lines and swirls when the lamp is on, creating a lantern effect across the entire cap surface. Underneath, hand-carved gill lines radiate from the center outward to the rim. The LED strip sits inside the cap at the stem junction, shining both outward through the gills and upward through the thinned wood. The result is a cap that glows warmly from top, sides, and bottom all at once.
The light is dimmable from full reading brightness down to a soft amber night light. At the lowest setting, the cap emits just enough glow to check on the baby without turning on an overhead light.
Sculpted Log Stem
The stem is a section of solid wood log with the natural surface preserved. Knots, grain ridges, bark traces, and small cracks are left visible and sealed rather than sanded smooth. The surface has a tactile, organic quality that invites touching. All edges are rounded and smooth to the touch. No sharp points, no splinters, no rough bark that could break off. The log is selected for visual warmth and golden honey tone that complements nursery color palettes.

The live edge slab base is wide and heavy, creating a low center of gravity that resists tipping. The LED runs cool to the touch, with no exposed bulbs, no hot surfaces, and no glass components.
