A driftwood stem rises from a rough tree stump beside your armchair, twisting gently as it climbs toward the vaulted ceiling. At the top, a wide bell-shaped mushroom cap catches the lamplight and turns it into a warm amber glow that fills the room. Hundreds of hand-carved gill lines under the bell radiate golden light in thick, visible rays that fan across the ceiling beams, the hardwood floor, and the open book on the chair beside it. The cap glows from within like a lantern made of honey-colored wood.
Organic Driftwood Stem
The stem is a single piece of naturally twisted driftwood with a flowing, organic form. The surface has been stripped bare by years of weathering, leaving pale silver-grey heartwood with smooth worn ridges, long grain grooves, and the memory of branches that broke away over time. The twist is soft and continuous, spiraling gently rather than kinking or bending sharply. The stem leans slightly as it rises, giving the lamp a living, growing posture rather than a rigid vertical line. Each piece of driftwood is hand-selected for its flowing twist, structural integrity, and visual balance.
Bell-Shaped Cap with Deep Gill Glow
The cap is shaped like a wide bell rather than a flat dome. It curves downward from a rounded crown to a flared rim, creating a deep, concave interior that amplifies and focuses the gill glow. The outer surface is polished smooth in warm golden amber with flowing grain, natural knots, and subtle color shifts from pale honey at the crown to deeper amber at the rim. Underneath, hundreds of hand-carved gill lines are cut deep into the concave interior, radiating from the stem junction outward to the flared rim. The LED strip sits at the center, and the deep bell shape captures and redirects the light through each carved channel, projecting thick, visible golden rays outward and downward. The effect is stronger and warmer than a flat dome cap because the bell shape acts as a natural reflector, concentrating the light before it fans out.
Tree Stump Base
The base is a thick cross-cut section of natural tree stump with the bark and weathered surface left intact. The top is flat-cut for the driftwood stem to mount securely. The irregular round shape, bark texture, and growth rings visible on the cut face anchor the lamp visually and physically. The stump is heavy, dense, and stable. A felt pad protects the floor underneath.
