Media Amendment Guidelines
*Recommended PBH use rate is 20 to 30% of total growing media
*Media with 20% PBH has approximately 10% air-filled pore space
*Media with 30% PBH has approximately 20% air-filled pore space
*Add PBH last when mixing media
*When replacing another component with PBH, conduct comparisons to determine desired growing media characteristics and meet individual cultural conditions and growth requirements
*PBH has a 6.2 to 6.6 pH range
*PBH has very little nutritional value, fertilize accordingly
Topdressing Guidelines
*Allow space at top of container at transplant
*Apply 1 to 2 inches of PBH on top of media
*Cover entire container surface
*Continue to use granular herbicide where appropriate
