With their warm glaze and petite scale, this pair of early 20th-century terracotta bulb pots was conceived as a decorative garniture for mantel or console. They were designed to force and display hyacinths, narcissus, or crocus indoors, the side apertures allowing multiple blooms to emerge together in a compact and decorative cluster.

Each vessel has a rounded body pierced with circular openings, rising from a turned socle and a broad circular foot finished with incised rings. The surface shows a honey-cream ground animated by chestnut brown marbling, the streaked glaze pooling in places to create lively variation and depth. Unmarked, the pair carries the gentle marks of age, with small flakes and abrasions around the foot rims, minor wear to the glaze, and light firing irregularities that enhance their rustic charm. 

As a pair they display beautifully on a mantel, console, or kitchen dresser, whether planted with seasonal bulbs or lined with small glass cups to hold cut stems.
