Parodia leninghausii - Golden Ball Cactus

Origin
Native to southern Brazil – especially the Rio Grande do Sul region

Light
Thrives in bright light with several hours of direct sun daily. A south- or west-facing windowsill is ideal. Can benefit from extra light in winter.

Water
Water thoroughly only when the soil is completely dry. In spring and summer, this may be every 2–3 weeks depending on conditions. In winter, reduce watering to once a month or less, especially in cooler temperatures.

Humidity
Prefers low humidity. Avoid placing in bathrooms or other damp areas.

Soil
Use a sharply draining cactus mix with added grit or perlite. Avoid regular compost or moisture-retaining soils.

Food
Feed every 4–6 weeks during the growing season with a cactus-specific liquid fertiliser. Pause feeding in winter.

Temperature
Prefers 18–27°C. Tolerates cooler temperatures down to 5°C if kept dry, but protect from frost.

Pet-safe
No – mildly toxic if ingested. Keep out of reach of pets and children.
