Phyta-Grow Leafy Green Special 7-1-2 in the original 50 lb package is the primary family option for market gardens, farms, greenhouses, and home growers fertilizing several beds. This plant-based product is made from pelleted soybean meal and contains no animal by-products.

Designed for vegetative crops

The 7-1-2 analysis emphasizes nitrogen for crops harvested primarily for foliage, including lettuce, kale, spinach, chard, and many culinary herbs. The pellets break down gradually, providing a steadier nutrient release than immediately soluble nitrogen sources.

The low phosphorus and moderate potassium levels make the formula distinct from a balanced all-purpose fertilizer. It is best placed within a broader fertility plan rather than used automatically throughout every stage of crop growth. Flowering and fruiting crops may require a different nutrient balance later in their production cycle.

Application planning

• Pre-plant: Published guidance is 10–20 lb per 1,000 sq ft before sowing or transplanting.
• Side-dressing: Apply a measured amount during growth when crop demand and soil fertility justify additional nitrogen.
• Field use: Published guidance is approximately 400 lb per acre, adjusted for soil conditions and the fertility program. Recheck soil or tissue results when symptoms persist instead of assuming that nitrogen alone is the limiting factor.

This is not a one-rate solution for every crop or soil. Account for compost, cover crops, previous fertilizer, irrigation, and existing nitrogen before applying. Excess nitrogen can produce overly soft foliage, delay maturity, or reduce crop quality. Monitor plant response and avoid adding more simply to deepen leaf color.
