Native to meadows and hillsides in China, Japan, Korea and Siberia, clump-forming Balloon Flower derives its common name from balloon-like flower buds that open into five-pointed, bell-shaped flowers that face upward or outward. Plants in this genus like well-drained soil rich in organic material. Compact P. grandifloras ‘Astra Blue’ features dark blue buds that burst into 3"-diameter, violet-blue flowers.
