The Satin Leaf tree, known scientifically as (Chrysophyllum cainito), is a tropical evergreen tree belonging to the family Sapotaceae. It is commonly referred to as the "Star Apple" tree, due to the unique star-shaped pattern visible in the fruit's interior. It's native to the tropical regions of the Caribbean, Central America, and parts of South America but is also cultivated in various tropical areas around the world.

The Satin Leaf tree is not only valued for its fruit but also for its beautiful ornamental foliage. In many tropical and subtropical regions, it is grown as a decorative tree for gardens and landscapes, thanks to its stunning, glossy leaves with a golden underside.

The Satin Leaf tree can grow up to 40-50 feet tall, the leaves are broad, elliptical, and glossy. They have a unique two-toned coloration. The upper surface of the leaves is shiny and green, the underside of the leaves has a soft, velvety, golden-yellow or copper color, which gives the tree its "satin" appearance. This distinctive look makes the tree quite ornamental.

The tree produces small, pale flowers that are usually not very showy. They are typically white or light yellow and are borne in clusters. The fruit of the Satin Leaf is round or oval and can grow up to 3–4 inches in diameter. When ripe, the fruit typically has a greenish to purple skin. Inside, the fruit has a smooth, translucent pulp that ranges in color from white to purple, depending on the variety. The interior has a unique star-shaped pattern, which is why it’s sometimes called the "Star Apple."

The flavor of the fruit is sweet and mildly tangy, with a slightly fibrous texture. It is usually eaten fresh, although it can also be used in juices, smoothies, or desserts. The Satin Leaf tree thrives in tropical climates, preferring warm, humid conditions with consistent rainfall. It does not tolerate cold weather and is sensitive to frost.

The tree requires regular watering, especially in dry periods. However, it doesn’t like to sit in waterlogged soil, so drainage is important. Fertilization with organic compost can promote healthy growth.
